The brief

Author Health, a provider of integrated behavioral and mental healthcare for older adults, came to us via General Atlantic, the company’s lead investor, and a repeat referral source. Preparing to come out of stealth and announce its Series A raise, Author needed the news to draw attention not only to the raise, but also to the company’s values, holistic approach, leadership team, and services available in select regional markets.

What we did

  1. 01

    Narrative and Messaging

With just one month from engagement to launch, Quarter Horse facilitated an accelerated version of our Narrative Seminar to identify the audiences critical to Author’s first-year objectives: potential employees, including behavioral health providers and care coordinators; customers, including Medicare Advantage members and their families; and current and future investors. We then homed in on the storylines that would resonate with these audiences, and how to get those stories across.

  2. 02

    PR Strategy

The size of Author’s raise would likely attract attention—our job was to make sure the story told was deeper than just a dollar figure in a headline. We recommended pursuing an exclusive feature with a healthcare reporter at a top-tier business publication, creating an opportunity to spotlight the mission behind the brand. To reach the audiences that mattered, coverage of the launch and Series A needed to tell a story bigger than the investment itself.

  3. 03

    Media Relations

Quarter Horse drafted the press release, FAQ, and interview briefs to keep three priorities at the center of every media conversation: the company’s unique model that combines virtual services with a community-based approach; its leadership team; and initial rollout in South Florida with one of the largest health insurance providers in the US.

  4. 04

    Internal and External Stakeholder Alignment

Quarter Horse conducted in-depth background interviews with Author’s leadership team and board members, including those with experience in behavioral health. The concrete examples and real-life anecdotes we got from these conversations brought the company’s mission to life, and established the company’s authority. We drafted quotes and LinkedIn posts for company leaders to support the announcement going live, and worked alongside Author’s digital marketing partner to keep messaging consistent across all company materials.

Real impact
Our media outreach resulted in an in-depth exclusive from Axios that went well beyond the funding news, highlighting Author’s model and mission and featuring perspectives from both the CEO and lead investor. WSJ Pro Venture Capital, Crunchbase, Fierce Healthcare, and others followed with original reporting that carried Author’s core messaging forward. In total, Quarter Horse secured over 40 pieces of unique press coverage. Syndication and newsletter coverage ultimately expanded that footprint to more than three times the number of original stories.
